BOOST Cataract Website - Fred Hollows Foundation
PROJECT OVERVIEW
BOOST (Better Operative Outcomes Software Tool) is a project managed by the Fred Hollows Foundation. BOOST is a free application for participants that allows surgeons to easily capture key cataract outcome data and share with other participants and organisations. It provides simple reports and feedback to users about how they can improve their performance.
Fred Hollows asked me to redesign the existing BOOST cataract website. I provided scoping documentation for a Bootstrap component library upgrade, conceptual design for the look and feel of complete website, front end development and testing hours. I also provided a responsive testing report during the websites staging process.

the process
It was very important that this sites focus was on guiding the users to down load the app, which they didn’t feel was being achieved in the original version of the BOOST website. I worked closely with the Fred Hollows Foundation project manager to get the branding and colours aligned with other materials the have for BOOST.
I worked closely with the team at Fred Hollows to break down the steps required and create documentation to reflect the work to be done.
I provided responsive concept designs based on the style guide that was provided.
Once the team had selected a concept I was able to focus on the development and upgrade of the Bootstrap component library.
After implementing the changes and building the new front end, it was deployed to the staging site for quality assurance and approval from the client.
A final round of changes were made, mostly content updates from the Fred Hollows team, and then all changes were pushed to GitHub ready for deployment on the live site by their IT team.
what I learnt from this project
This project required that I understand the more technical side of design. I used this project to motivate me to skill myself up in Bootstrap version and upgrade requirements, ASPNET framework, Flexbox and GItHub. It was a huge amount of information to take on board but I was able to get through it successfully and come out the other end knowing so much more about the technical side of web design.
