Cubro website redesign
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Cubro is a healthcare equipment specialist helping to improve the quality of life of the elderly, injured, and disabled for the last 30+ years in New Zealand. The website redesign was part of a larger rebranding project and required a new design system and set of content blocks to be built within their content management system for easy reuse in future content updates of the site. Accessibility was a priority and needed thorough consideration throughout the project.
As the accessibility champion of the site, I design an accessible design system that achieves 90% success in Lighthouse accessibility audits. I also selected Lexebd Deca to be used as our company font as this font set has been specifically designed to assist in improved readability, particularly for those with dyslexia and vision impairments. https://www.lexend.com/
the process
I collaborated closely with marketing and the developers to understand the key messages and technical restraints within the CMS used for the website to create a well branded, well functioning new website.
I created multiple concepts and worked through what content was priority and how to best present these in a logical way. Tasks included:
CMS functionality review
I worked on a new design system, focused on accessible digital components that worked well responsively
Responsive design, allowing a seamless experience across multiple browsers and devices (and tested these)
New content block designs to be developed and reused in future by the marketing team
An improved IA to streamline customers journey to discover products and contact us or purchase
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accessible design system / user flows & journeys / platform review / prototyping / usabilty testing / QA
ACCESSIBLE DESIGN SYSTEM
what I learnt from this project
Creation of a fully accessible design system for an existing website, how to update the styles without losing the essence of the brand. How to work with multiple teams with different focuses, collaborating and communicating well at each step of the process. It is truly amazing how a few questions early on can get answers that positively impact the final outcomes
