Ballance N Calculator

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Ballance is a fertiliser manufacturer, supply and sales company based in New Zealand. They have embraced agriscience and technology to pivot to a more sustainable and profitable way to farm.

Nitrogen plays an important role in meeting the growing demand for food production around the world. However, the increasing demand for nitrogen combined with a restricted supply, rising energy costs, and an increased focus on food security, has seen nitrogen fertiliser costs rising to near-record levels. Ballance wanted to create a calculator to help customers easily work out their return on investment and compare it with other forms of feed in the market.

the process

With a kick-off meeting that included developers, project management and the customers themselves - we were able to discuss and confirm the logic of the calculator using an interactive spread as proof of concept. Using their existing design system I could then create concepts that were accurate functionally and aesthetically. This allowed for a short development turnaround and a streamlined testing phase. Activities included:

  • Working within the constraints of an existing design system, focusing on making the calculator look seamlessly part of their ecosystem

  • Responsive design, a seamless experience across multiple browsers and devices (and tested these)

  • Prototyping of all possible cases and covering off any edge cases

  • Closely working with all stakeholders for a quick turnaround of the project
