Royal Armouries - Digital Collection

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Royal Armouries has three museums across the United Kingdom and cares for one of the most important national collections of arms and armour in the world.

The Royal armouries required a responsive digital asset management for their growing collection of high quality images and multimedia. This interface manages the public purchases of their digital assets alongside the objects description and information.

RESPONSIBILITIES

user interface design / all tech and user docs

the process

I visited the Royal Armouries in Leeds to get an understanding of the process their user go through to purchase a digital asset. Using this information I was able to create a number of documents and concepts to help guide the project to a successful outcome. My steps included:

  • Creating a sketched process flow diagram to understand where the journey within this interface begins and ends.

  • An understanding around what happens after the user leaves the interface and inclusion of content to allow them to fully understand what happens next.

  • Wireframe to allow for some rapid usability testing of the concepts.

  • Creation of the user interface components based on the organisations current assets and style guide.

  • High fidelity prototype with downloadable assets and annotation for the developers to use during implementation of the design.

  • Testing of the interface to ensure there were no bugs or dead ends n the system

what I learnt from this project

During this project I learnt how to create a seamless experience between an additional product and an already exisiting product. This was mainly due the work I did upfront with the organisation where we looked at the existing experience and styles and worked through different concepts to find the most suitable one for the situation. It was very important to discuss and understand the users from the organisations point of view. It was really important for this interface to feel a part of what exists and be easy to use on a tablet.
